us5 @ the cinema again
Dear all!
Call us crazy but tonight we went to the cinema to see "Run, Fatboy, Run" and the movie started at 11.30pm. That`s why I`m posting at 2.10am, because we have just come back home. Some of us liked the movie because it is funny and the soundtrack is great and some of us liked it because they got some sleep :)
We are not quite sure what we`re going to do tomorrow. Some of us (me!) want to spend the day in another place than Southampton. We have considered going to Bournemouth by train which would only take about 50 minutes. So I better go to bed now and get some sleep to be fit for our journey tomorrow - which is not going to start before noon!
My plan is to get up early and do some work on the project......not sure if this is going to happen ;-)
I would love to be able to say "I don`t have an alarm, I never need to be anywhere" just like the guy in the movie.

us5 @ CIS
Hey everybody!
What we have forgotten to inform you about:
Yesterday we visited the Children`s Information Service (CIS) in Southampton. Andrea, the senior information officer, told us about the organisation.
The CIS was set up by the Southampton City Council and offers a lot of brochures and booklets, but also consultation for pregnant women and parents.
If you have any questions on childcare, spare time activities for children, family support or any other kind of questions to these matters, go straight to the CIS! ;)
It was quite interesting, that parents in England have several possiblities for childcare....much more than we have in Austria. But as our project topic is not about childcare, the visit was unfortunately not that helpful, but nevertheless interesting.

And as Johny Cash already said: "We`ll meet again, don`t know where, don`t know when" ;)

Hi!
We`ve just arrived in our luxurious rooms after we went to the cinema to see "Knocked up". It was absolutely hilarious! We have learnt a lot of useful vocabulary but as this blog is meant to be serious it would be inappropriate to mention any of those words in here ;-)
Marlis joined us5 and bought a bag of popcorn that was half her body size. Thank you, Marlis for sharing it with us. Remember: sharing is caring :)
A new day has already started, maybe we should call it a night.

Whitehaven Lodge
Here is some general information about Whitehaven Lodge in Millbrook which is in the west of Southampton. The current registered manager is Lorraine Tew - a very kind lady.
In gereral the Southampton City Council provides care facilities for older citizens in six homes across the city. Whitehaven Lodge is the biggest one and was purpose built in 1981. It offers care facilities for 55 persons who are in need of special care. Either because they are frail (gebrechlich) or they have mild dementia. Costs for one person come up to £ 380 a week. All together there are 45 employees. The staff group have developed close working relationships with local General Practitioners, District Nurses and other health professionals including dentists and opticians.
On the ground floor there is the kitchen and one large dining room, which was beautifully refurbished recently (see picture), four smaller lounges, a smoking area and 23 bedrooms. The bathrooms and toilets have to be used by all people together. On the first floor there are three seperate living areas, each with their own kitchen and dining facilities, so the residents are able to prepare drinks and snacks on their own if they wish so.
On the rear side of the building there is a nice garden where the residents can enjoy the warmer months outside. The residents also have the posibility to go shopping and buy drinks, toiletries and sweets. Additionally, there is a library area on the first floor and hairdressing facilities.
